Handisport 3April 24 - The Fédération Française Handisport (FFH) is to celebrate 100 days until the Paralympic Games with the sixth Rencontres EDF Handisport event outside Paris City Hall on May 25 and 26.

It is also 20 years since the FFH and energy company EDF, the Official Electricity Supplier of London 2012, began their partnership making it a double celebration.

The event will be attended by some of France's top Paralympians, including Arnaud Assoumani (pictured below), a long-jump gold medallist from Beijing 2008.

Assoumani will be joined by fellow long jumper and Beijing 2008 double silver medallist Marie-Amélie Le Fur (pictured top).

Also attending the event will be swimming stars Elodie Lorandi and
Charles Rozoy.

Lorandi is a key medal hope for London 2012, having dominated at the European Championships last year with five gold medals, while Rozoy, who specialises in the 50 and 100 metres freestyle disciplines and 100m butterfly, is a multiple national champion who will also be  optimistic heading into the Paralympics.

Some will tell their stories to fans at the event in Paris next month, and Le Fur said: "It is an incredible chance to share my passion with the Parisian public 100 days before one of the most important meetings of my career: the Paralympic Games."

Twenty Paralympic sports will be showcased to children and adults, as EDF and FFH hope to further increase the number of young disabled people they have educated since 1992, currently standing at 500,000.

"After 20 years of a very successful collaboration, EDF and the federation have organised this indispensable event hand in hand yet again," said FFH President Gérard Masson.

"Everyone is focused on the Paralympic Games and 100 days before the Opening Ceremony we want to transform the city hall's square into a big festive place."

Catherine Lescure, marketing director of EDF, said: "We are happy to organise the sixth edition of the Recontres EDF Handisport, and welcome the public to meet French athletes going to the Paralympic Games."

The Paralympic Games begins on August 29 and runs until September 9; at Beijing 2008 France won 30 gold medals and will send about 200 athletes to London.
