ann hogbin_01-02-12February 1 - Ann Hogbin (pictured), the former chief executive of Commonwealth Games England (CGE), has been appointed as the Deputy Chef de Mission for Operations for the ParalympicsGB team at London 2012.

Hogbin, who led CGE for nearly 20 years before stepping down at the end of last year, was selected for the role by ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission Craig Hunter in what is his first major appointment since taking up the role last September.

The move is no major surprise as Hunter and Hogbin forged a successful partnership at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games when Hunter served as Chef de Mission for Team England.

The pair led the country to third place on the medal table despite several logistical challenges in the lead up to the competition in Indian capital.

Hogbin is set to work through to the end of the Paralympic Games and admitted that she was delighted to be involved in helping ParalympicsGB.

"To be part of the team behind the team at a home Games is something that I experienced in Manchester and I know how special it is," she said.

"I'm honoured therefore to be part of the team behind Britain's Paralympians at this critical time and I'm looking forward to joining a world class team that is dedicating every moment to supporting the athletes"

Hogbin's appointment was announced by Hunter to the team leaders of all the Paralympic sports, who were meeting today for a briefing before touring the Paralympic Village at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

"Ann brings with her an enormous amount of Games experience and her understanding of what it takes to deliver excellence in the multisport environment is second to none," Hunter said.

"Having worked with her in Delhi, I can think of no one better to ensure that we deliver an outstanding environment for our athletes and bolster the dedicated operations team already in place for the Games."

Hogbin started her career at the British Olympic Association (BOA) before moving to CGE and racking up 22 Games worth of experience across both organisations as part of the core staff team in roles ranging from administrator to Chef de Mission.

She was recognised in the New Year Honours list in 2008 for Services to Sport and she will now join a ParalympicsGB support staff team led by Hunter, and featuring Deputy Chef de Mission for Performance Penny Briscoe and chief press officer Caroline Searle.

"This great appointment completes the senior executive team for ParalympicsGB at Games time," said British Paralympic Association (BPA) chief executive Tim Hollingsworth.

"Between the Chef, the two Deputy Chefs and the chief press officer, they have an incredible 54 Paralympic, Olympic or Commonwealth Games between them.

"I am delighted that the team is in very safe hands."
