July 17 - England's women hockey players missed out on a place in the Champions Trophy final after they could only draw 2-2 in their final pool match against New Zealand in Nottingham.

A win would have been enough to secure England a final berth but their draw, allied to Argentina's 4-3 win against China, means the South Americans will face the Netherlands in the final.

England will now meet Germany, who lost 1-0 to the Netherlands, in the bronze medal match.

Danny Kerry's side fell behind when Piki Hamahona opened the scoring with a solo effort after nine minutes and their deficit doubled when Gemma Flynn tucked away a rebound from her own shot to put New Zealand 2-0 up.

England rallied as Charlotte Craddock set up Slough's Nicola White (pictured) to pull a goal back, and just before half-time Crista Cullen converted a penalty corner to pull them level.

But they could not find a winner in a tight second half, with Cullen seeing a late effort from a penalty corner blocked.

Head coach Kerry said: "Credit to the girls, they came back from 2-0 down.

"They did really, really well to get two goals back.

"At half time there were some key messages given and I'm a little disappointed some of them didn't get through.

"My job now is to get the girls up and prepare for tomorrow's match."
