World Athletics President Sebastian Coe has underlined his desire to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competition - but only in circumstances where it is "palatable and fair."

Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin has welcomed the move towards exploring a return for Russian and Belarusian athletes to international sport, claiming that "our athletes deserve to participate in the Olympic Games."

Representatives of the Olympic Movement including Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Stanislav Pozdnyakov have arrived here for tomorrow's Olympic Summit, where the war in Ukraine is expected to be high on the agenda.

Some of the logic is questionable, but the International Olympic Committee have made the right call when cooling their flirtation with esports.

Any hopes that esports had of becoming an Olympic sport in the near future appear to have been dashed after senior International Olympic Committee officials, led by President Thomas Bach, claimed talk of it becoming a medal event is "premature".

Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) President Kenneth Fok has welcomed the Olympic Movement’s conclusion that competitive esports "could be considered as a sporting activity".
