President Svein Arne Hansen’s new vision for European Athletics (EA) has been sharpened by the creation of the EA Strategic Communications Commission, which has had its first meeting in Velenje, Slovenia.

European Athletics (EA) has taken an important step to creating a rewarding synergy with the Euorpean Commission to promote and enhance grassroots running.  

Next month’s European Athletics Convention in Lausanne will involve a full house of keynote speakers following confirmations of attendance from the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, newly-elected International Association of Athletics Federations President Sebastian Coe and Patrick Hickey, President of the European Olympic Committees.

European-only races at elite one-day meetings, to help the development of middle and long distance runners, are now being actively promoted internationally by the new European Athletics President, Svein Arne Hansen, who has used Mo Farah as an example of how to improve by racing at the right level.

Svein Arne Hansen has outlined a new “driving licence” approach to anti-doping education to be put in place during his Presidency of European Athletics.

Exactly a year before the 23rd European Athletics Championships are due to get underway in Amsterdam,  a senior official has praised the event’s organisers and described 2016 as “the perfect time” for the Netherlands to make its debut as host to the event.

European Athletics has hosted the biggest ever event bidding seminar for the 2020 European Athletics Championships and 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Lausanne.

Svein Arne Hansen, the new European Athletics President, has today made good on his intention to include more women in the organisation in announcing the names of the 14 females appointed to Commissions following last weekend’s Council meeting in Oslo.

Awarding hosting rights for two championships and a new structure for European Athletics’ commissions will top the agenda during a landmark occasion for the sport this weekend here when President Svein Arne Hansen welcomes the Council to his home town for its first full meeting since its election in April.

Brendan Foster and Sebastian Coe are among those who have welcomed the European Athletics initiative in launching a new set of guidelines for runners and organisers involved in the increasingly popular phenomenon of road races across its 50 member federations, entitled “Running for All”.

European Athletics has announced that SPAR International, a sponsor of its major events since 1996, has renewed its International Partnership for a further three years, from 2017-2019.

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) has announced an exclusive partnership with Swiss-based marketing and commercial rights specialists Tridem Sports as it looks to increase the profile and sponsorship engagement of its top-level events.

Svein Arne Hansen, newly elected President of European Athletics, said he had had a “good, frank conversation” with Patrick Hickey, his counterpart at the European Olympic Committees (EOC), in talks which will help shape the future presence of athletics in the European Games.
