The Olympic Flag has been lowered to half mast at Olympic House in Lausanne as a tribute to King Constantine of Greece, sailing gold medallist at the 1960 Olympics in Rome and Honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who has died in Athens aged 82.

The late Prince Philip could be honoured during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, according to the city’s Lord Mayor Muhammad Afzal.

The many tributes from the world of sport have already demonstrated what an important part it had played in the life of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday aged 99. 

Commonwealth Games Federation (GCF) President Dame Louise Martin has claimed that Prince Philip "will forever be remembered for a lifetime of dedicated service to the Commonwealth", after the former CGF leader died age 99.

In any normal year, Edinburgh would be preparing for its world famous festival but 50 summers ago, the "Athens of the North" had a further attraction to offer.
