Working in collaboration with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Singapore Mint, organisers have revealed three coins made of gold, silver and copper-nickel which are valued at S$10 (£4.70), S$5 (£2.30) and S$2 (£0.95) respectively.

The gold coin is said to represent the golden moments athletes will experience at Singapore 2010 while the silver coin is Singapore’s first hologram coin with colour and has been created to celebrate the nation as the host city of the inaugural Youth Olympics which is due to open on August 14.

Meanwhile, the copper-nickel coin is a new innovation made of bi-metal with colour.

The coins are sold individually but the silver coin can be packaged together with a set of four silver-plated medallions which are decorated with Singapore 2010 sport pictograms and orchids, a symbol of Singapore, to form a coin set.

A coin exhibition has been set up at the Olympic Superstore where the public can view the skilful craftsmanship and laborious minting process behind every Singapore 2010 coin.

The public will also be able to catch a rare glimpse of the Singapore 2010 coins in different minted stages as well as view the special minting tools that were used.

The exhibition will be held until July 18 at the Olympic Superstore.
