A series of measures have been presented to a Government Support Committee chaired by Prime Minister Chung Un-Chan designed to give Pyeongchang the edge over rivals Annecy and Munich.

The plans include expediting the construction of railways and repairing roads in Gangwon Province.

Among the plans the Government has brought forward the completion of a 113 kilometres double rail track line running between Wonju and Gangneung from 2020 to 2018.

If Pyeongchang wins the bid, Gangneung will host the skating competition, which will be one of the main highlights of the Games as South Korea's Vancouver gold medallist Kim Un-Ya would be expected to be among the favourites.

Other work that will have extra resources poured into it are to straighten a curved section of a 28.5-kilometer road between Jinbu and Najeon.

The road will be the main entrance to a downhill race facility in Jungbong, Gangwon Province.
