The technology was presented to more than 100 guests at Panasonic's 3D convention, which took place at the International Exhibition Centre "Crocus Expo" in Moscow.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, the chief executive and President of Sochi 2014, spoke at the conference and highlighted the importance of the Olympic partnership with Panasonic.

He said: "Panasonic has supported the Olympic Games for more than 20 years, having become an official Worldwide Olympic Partner in 1988 in the Audio and Video Equipment product category.

"Sochi 2014 is happy the partnership will continue to include the 2014 Games.

"Panasonic's 3D HD technology could offer the opportunity to capture the passion of sport like never before, delivering an outstanding viewing experience for the fans across the world and making them feel even closer to the event."

The convention also saw a wide range of speakers, including the President of Panasonic Russia, Junichiro Kitagawa, who discussed recent advances in 3D technology.

Also in attendance were Russian Paralympic medalist Olesya Vladykina and Russian Olympic medalist Alexander Zubkov who were presented with a prize by Kitagawa.

Earlier this year, Panasonic brought the Winter Olympics in 3D to a lucky few, with the company setting up two full HD theatres in LiveCity, Vancouver, where the games took place.
