May 9 - British cyclist Hannah Mayho (pictured) has undergone a successful surgical procedure to pin her broken leg after being hit by a car during a training ride in Belgium on Friday morning.

The 19-year-old Yorkshire Olympic hopeful was involved in a collision with four British team-mates.

Mayho underwent surgery after breaking a leg, as well as her right arm and wrist and will be kept in hospital in Oudenaarde for the rest of the week.

Lucy Martin, Katie Colclough, Emma Trott and Sarah Reynolds were also injured in the incident, which occured on a training run between Brakel and Oudenaarde.

Olympic Academy Programme coach Simon Cope said: "We are all feeling much more positive.

"All the people here have been really great and have rallied around to help us."

Mayho is hoping to make the GB cycling team for the 2012 London Olympics.

She has recently moved from pursuit racing to test herself at the more unpredictable road and stage racing.

Her breakthrough came at the Junior National Track Championships in 2006, where she won the 2,000 metres individual pursuit.

Mayho retained that title in 2007 and won the national individual pursuit for a third year running, breaking the national record.

She took silver in the 2,000m individual pursuit at the Junior European Championships in 2007 and won gold in both that and the junior women’s team pursuit in 2008.
