April 23 - Britain's senior men's team, led by Louis Smith (pictured), have comfortably qualified for their first-ever team final at the 2010 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

The team of Smith, Daniel Keatings, Daniel Purvis, Sam Hunter and Kristian Thomas produced a total team score of 262.025 points to make tomorrow's final.

Olympic bronze medallist Smith and world runner-up Keatings were the top two qualifiers on the pommel horse as four Britons also reached the individual apparatus finals.

Smith was disappointed after falling in the pommel horse World Championships in October.

But he is preparing to try the same routine as he continues preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Smith, who turned 21 this week , said: "If you look at it saying everyone expected me to get a gold medal, then it didn't go to plan.

"But I'm looking at 2012 and I did the routine at the 2009 World Championships that I want to do at the 2012 Olympics.

"It'd be nice, to have a European Championships gold medal hanging around your neck you can't complain, it would be brilliant, but at the end of the day, you can only do your best."
