March 5 - Haroon Khan (pictured), the younger brother of Olympic silver medallist and world lightweight champion Amir, has agreed to fight for Pakistan at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi and the London 2012 Olympics, it was announced tonight.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) told local television that Khan had agreed to switch his allegiance from Britain to Pakistan following a trip to Karachi with his father Shah, details of which had first been revealed on insidethegames last month.

Pakistan assistant coach Abdul Majeed Brohi watched Haroon in a series of practice and agreed to include him in Pakistan's squad for for the Commonwealth Games, which open in Delhi on October 3, and the Asian Games, which are due to take place in Guangzhou, China, in November.

The 18-year-old from Bolton is likely to box in the 52 kilograms division in both events.

Haroon has already been given a Pakistan passport by the Government with the hope that he will also represent them at London 2012.

Muhammad Akram Khan, the secretary of the PBF, said: "Haroon, who come here with his father last month, did sparring with our boxers in front of the Cuban coach for two days.

"He is a good boxer and has impressed the Cuban coach Francisco Roldan and will come here to attend a joint training camp for two months before the Commonwealth Games."

Shah Khan said: "My aim is that at least one of my sons plays for Pakistan and make a name for the country in London Olympics 2012."

Haroon, a former captain of Young England, had reportedly become disillusioned with the set-up in Britain after being overlooked for both the 21-strong GB podium and 11-man development squads named recently by performance director Rob McCracken.
