February 24 - Samsung will tomorrow announce here that they have renewed their sponsorship of the Paralympics in a deal that will include London 2012, insidethegames can reveal.

Sir Philip Craven, the President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and Gyehyun Kwon, Samsung's vice president and head of worldwide sports marketing, will hold a joint press conference here to confirm the deal.

A statement from the South Korean company said: "Samsung will announce...an important extension of its involvement with the Paralympic Games, through which Samsung will support the IPC's efforts to communicate the inspiration and excitement of Paralympic sport to a wider audience around the world."

The renewal of the deal that was originally launched on the eve of the last Winter Paralympics in Turin four years ago will be a major boost for the IPC, who also last month re-signed Visa as a partner, on the eve of the Games, which are due to open here on March 12 and continue until March 21.

Sir Philip and Kwon will be joined at the announcement by Jean Labonte, the captain of the Canadian national ice sledge hockey team, a member of the squad that won the gold medal at Turin 2006.

He is also a member of Team Samsung, a group of high-profile brand ambassadors working with the company to build excitement around and increase access to sport in the lead-up to the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Samsung have been one of the biggest supporters of world sport since their involvement with the Olympics began in 1988 when they were a local sponsor of the Games in Seoul.

The company became a worldwide Olympic partner starting at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano when they signed up to become the sponsor in the wireless communications equipment category.

The current deal now runs through until after the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Samsung are also major worldwide partner of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and sponsor former Premier League champions Chelsea.

The company is also bankrolling Pyeongchang's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
