February 8 - Car manufacturer Audi has signed up to be a partner of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DSOB) and a national promoter of the German National Paralympic Committee for the Vancouver and London Games, it has been announced.


The company already sponsors the German Ski Federation and several other sports, including football, golf and sailing.

Rupert Stadler, the chairman of the management Board of Audi AG, said: "The Olympic Games mark the highlight in the career of any athlete.

"As arguably the world’s most famous logo, the five rings symbolise a peaceful and fair competition of all nations without frontiers.

"Effective immediately, the four rings from Ingolstadt will be at the side of our athletes, who will be fighting for precious metal in Vancouver and London.

"We want to be a promoter of the teams and, in addition, support the federations with the concentrated know-how of our company."

Thomas Bach, the President of the DSOB, said: "Audi is not only a brand that enjoys an excellent international reputation due to its innovative technologies and outstanding quality.

"The company continually assumes social responsibility as well and has earned great merits as a promoter of sport.

"We are proud to have such a strong partner at our side in the future and look forward to many joint projects."

During the Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver, Audi will also provide the vehicles for the shuttle service for the German athletes and guests of the German House in Vancouver and its annex in Whistler.

In addition, the athletes of the Olympic and Paralympic teams will benefit from the pioneering technological work of Audi.

German ski jumpers and swimmers have already been training at the company;s wind tunnel centre in Ingolstadt for many years in order to improve their body postures and their gear under unique conditions.
