February 3 - London 2012 revealed today that three of the 11 planned residential sections have been built for the Olympic Village.

Work began in the summer of 2008 and the first residential plot was completed last October.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) says two others, comprising nearly 600 homes, have now been structurally completed.

Work will now start on the exterior of the buildings, with attention turning to the interior later this year.

The ODA said construction on the remaining eight residential areas is "well under way" with 2,800 people workers on the site.

Each plot consists of six to eight buildings built around a courtyard in a rectangular layout.

The Village will house more than 10,000 athletes and officials during the Olympics.

David Higgins, the chief executive of the ODA, said: "The sheer scale of the Olympic Village development means this will become one of the busiest parts of our construction programme in 2010 and the completion of a further two residential plots keeps us firmly on track.

"The Village is already making its mark on the changing landscape of East London."

Afterwards, the buildings will become local housing with 2,818 new homes, including 1,379 affordable homes with family housing with nearly 1,000 three and four bed homes.
