November 15 - Kyra Shroff (pictured), one of India's most promising young tennis players, has claimed that she has not received a promised bonus of Rs 15 lakh (£1,900) for winning two medals at last year's Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune.

The money was allegedly promised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) after Shroff, a 17-year-old ranked 126th in the world junior rankings, won silver medals in the singles and doubles, where she was partnered by Poojashree Venkatesha.

Firdaus Shroff, the player's father, said:  "It has been a year since the announcement and we have not received a single cent of the money."

He claimed that he had been trying to contact Suresh Kalmadi, the President of the IOA, to discuss the issue but had been unable to contact him.

Pralhad Sawant, the joint secretary of the Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA), denied that the IOA had ever promised to financially reward medallists at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

He said: "The IOA never made any sort of an announcement pertaining to prize money for the medal winners of the CYG.

"The State Government was the only body that made such an announcement and they delivered on their promise.

"If this was not an empty claim, I would have received numerous complaints from the other medal winners over the past year, but that has not been the case."
