According to a recent public opinion poll conducted by the German Sport Information Agency SID, during which they interviewed more than a 1,000 people, the overwhelming majority of the German public back the Munich bid and it is increasing. 

 

Today 82.2 per cent of the German public support the bid which is 3.8 percent higher than last month, the survey found. 

 

With 21 months to go before the election of the 2018 host city in Durban, 64.7 per cent of respondents think Munich have a good chance of winning.

 

The survey was conducted after the official launch last month which saw Munich 2018 launch its new logo.

 

The German city, bidding to become the first in history to host both the Summer and Winter Games, is one of only three candidates for 2018.

 

The others are Pyeongchang in South Korea and Annecy in France.

 

The International Olympic Committee are due to announce the winner at its Session in Durban on July 6, 2011.
