October 30 - Rio de Janeiro's celebrations after being awarded the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics will come to an end today when they begin to move into the preparation stage with an orientation seminar.

The two-day seminar, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), at the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio, will be attended by representatives of the three levels of Government, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (BPC).

The seminar will be the first work meeting in Rio to begin organising the 2016 Games and will be attended by seven IOC representatives, including Gilbert Felli, the executive director of the Olympic Games.

The meeting will also be attended by the IOC’s longest-serving member, João Havelange, the President of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Carlos Nuzman, Rio 2016's secretary general, Carlos Roberto Osório, Sports Minister, Orlando Silva, Rio State Governor Sérgio Cabral and Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.

Others who will be at the seminar include Ricardo Leyser, the Sports Ministry's National Secretary for High Performance Sport, Márcia Lins, Rio State Secretary for Sport, Tourism and Leisure, Ruy Cezar, Rio's Special Secretary for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, and other State and Municipal secretaries, as well as representatives of Ministries and public organisations involved in the Games.

Felli will be joined on the IOC team by Timo Lumme, director of television and marketing services; Christophe Dubi, director of sports; Antony Scanlon, head of Olympic Games coordination, services and operations; Jennifer O'Brien, Olympic Games coordination project manager; Robert Roxburgh, a senior member of the IOC communications team; and Toshio Tsurunaga, manager of IOC services for National Olympic Committees.

The seminar is aimed at providing the IOC's initial guidance on organising the Games.

Nuzman said: "We began our work whilst still in Copenhagen, less than 24 hours after Rio was declared the Host City.

"This meeting will be important to establish our next steps and further integrate all those involved in the process of organizing the Games, aligning our efforts."
