The new role – located at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield - offers a full-time, three-year contract that will lead up to and include the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The ABAE advertise that the role will involve directly supporting the national and regional ABAE Boxing Development Officers with the strategic delivery of the Whole Sport Plan (WSP) throughout ABAE, geared towards women’s participation and education.

 

The aim is for ABAE to implement further positive outcomes for women and produce partnerships in schools, higher and further education.

 

The ABAE advert said: "The role requires a skilled and enthusiastic National Women’s Boxing and Education Sector Manager who has already established respect and credibility within sport, who must also have a proven track record of strategic and focused delivery outcomes."

 

Rebecca Gibson, head of development at the ABAE, said: "As one of the fastest growing sports in Great Britain, women’s boxing is a priority for us and we want to do all we can to ensure that both grassroots and elite level participants have a quality experience."

 

In addition to the new role, British boxing will be holding a two-day assessment training camp for women beginning on November 6.

 

The assessment camp – primarily focused on finding talent ahead of the London 2012 Games – is the first training camp for women since the announcement that boxing will be included in the Olympics.

 

Gibson said: "The Olympic announcement has given the sport a major boost and we are already getting lots of anecdotal feedback from our clubs about increased interest from women.

 

"We want to build on this influx at the grassroots and continue to drive increased participation by providing support and resources that will enable more women to experience the benefits of boxing."
