September 17 - Hampshire's Peter Norfolk (pictured) has clinched his second US Open quad singles title  in New York, extending his tally of wheelchair tennis majors to 16 as he held of American world number one David Wagner 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to win his second Grand Slam of 2009.

 
A day before the one year anniversary of his second Paralympic title in Beijing, the man known as the "Quadfather" had his serve broken in the first game of the first set as Wagner established a 2-0 lead, but Norfolk came back to lead 3-2 and clinched his fourth came in succession to move a break ahead. 
 
With Norfolk serving for the first set, Wagner had a break back point, but the American was unable to make use of it and Norfolk wen on to convert his first set point.
 
Wagner earned the decisive breakthrough of the second, breaking the Norfolk serve to go 5-3 ahead and then served out comfortably to forced a third and deciding set.
 
Norfolk, a 48-year-old from Alton, struck at the start of the decider to break Wagner, but the American broke straight back to leave the match finely poised at 2-2 and then won his third game on the bounce to edge ahead. 

However, that was to be his last real success as Norfolk went 40-0 ahead in each of the next three games, breaking Wagner to love to move 5-3 ahead and within one game of the title. 

The Briton sealed victory on his first match point, adding to his title at Flushing Meadows in 2007, when he won the inaugural US Open quad singles event.
 
Norfolk said: "I'm absolutely delighted to defend my title of 2007.

"We couldn't come here last year because of the overlap of dates with the Paralympics, but I love New York, it has a special buzz about it. 

It's been a difficult few days with all the scheduling because of rain and today was a see-saw match, which I am just glad to have closed out." 
 
Norfolk remains unbeaten in quad singles events at the Grand Slams, having also won the Australian Open for the past two years.
