September 14 - Britain¹s Heather Fell (pictured) finished agonisingly close to the medals in fourth place at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro.


Fell, who won the silver medal at last year¹s World Cup Final, finished six seconds behind bronze medallist Leila Gyenesei of Hungary at the end of the combined run/shoot.
 

British team-mate Mhairi Spence came 12th with Katy Livingston finishing 21st.
 

Fell, the Olympic silver medallist, was 11th after the fencing, winning 12 of her 24 contests for 840 points, with Livingston and Spence earning 920 and 908 points respectively.
 

Fell clocked 2min 16.39sec for the 200 metres freestyle, the fifth fastest time in the pool for 1164 points.

Livingston¹s 2:18.79 was eighth fastest and Spence¹s 2:19.72 was 11th fastest.


Fell dropped just 20 points from the maximum 1,200 in the riding arena, with Livingston dropping 40 and Spence 60.
 

Fell then produced the third fastest run/shoot with a time of 12:49.00 to end the day in fourth.

Spence completed the run/shoot in 13:36.00 and Livingston in 15:42.60.

The gold medal was won by Lithuania's Donata Rimsaite, who is still struggling with a back injury she suffered in a riding accident at the World Championships at Crystal Palace last month.
 

Rimsaite overhauled home hope Yane Marques on the final lap, with Gyenesei taking bronze.

Britain’s men also finished out of the medals with Sam Weale coming 18th and Nick Woodbridge 24th.
 
Gold went to Hungary’s world number one Adam Marosi, who added the World Cup  title to the World Championships crown he won at Crystal Palace last month.
 
Weale started his campaign by winning half of his 32 fencing bouts for 832 pentathlon points, while Woodbridge’s 14 victories earned him 776 points.
 
Woodbridge once again produced the strongest swim of the competition with a time of 1:59.26 to add 1372 points to his total.

Weale’s 2:05.03 with seventh fastest for 1300.
 
Both of the Britons performed well in the show jumping arena.

Woodbridge dropped just 20 points on the ride for 1,180, with Weale dropping 60 for 1,140.
 
Weale’s time of 12:10.00 for the combined run/shoot was 21st, earning another 2440 points, while Woodbridge’s 13:13.00 was 27th for an additional 2188 points.
