altBRITISH TRIATHLON today announced that Heather Williams (pictured) will take over as its new performance programme director as it seeks to restructure following the departure last year of performance director Graeme Maw.

Williams’ new role will see her manage and provide strategic leadership to British Triathlon’s world class programme.

Williams is a former international triathlete who has represented Britain at both World and European Championships and was the English Commonwealth Games team manger.

She was previously the world class programme Manager at British Triathlon.

Following the departure last October of Maw from the position of performance director, the British Triathlon Federation has embarked on a restructuring of its world class programme with the aim of aligning it more closely to the new world class funding structure introduced a year ago by UK Sport.

This restructure will see a smaller performance team operating within British Triathlon with a stronger focus on the performance of podium, development and talent Confirmation elements of the world class pathway headed by three world class coaches.

The triathlon programme currently supports eight world class podium athletes, 18 world class development athletes and operates a talent confirmation programme which links with the Home Nations and regional talent programmes.

Williams’ new role will be to lead and manage the programme with the appointment of new world class coaching positions focusing on working directly with the podium and development athletes to improve their performance standards and results in international competition.

British Triathlon has also announced the appointment of Helen Wyeth as director of operations.

Wyeth, the former head of communications at UK Athletics, will head up the organisation’s business activities.
