altFEBRUARY 14 - ENGLAND beat Poland 3-2 in the European Team Championships at the Echo Arena in Liverpool to book a place in the final against Denmark tomorrow.

 

Head coach Ian Wright was full of praise for his side, who now face a Danish team looking for their eighth title in a row.

He said: "We knew it would be a hard slog and it was, the Poles played really well.

"We showed a lot of character to come through. It was good having the experience of Donna [Kellogg] there at the end but I thought Jenny [Wallwork] was excellent and held her corner very well".

Anthony Clark and Kellogg gave England an early lead with a convicing victory over Michael Logosz and Natalia Pocztowiak.

Poland pulled level when world number nine seed Przemyslaw Wacha beat Andrew Smith.

Liz Cann came from behind to beat Kamila Augustyn 2-1 and restore Englands lead.

A 2-0 defeat for Nathan Robertson and Clark to Logosz and Robert Mateusiak took the match to the last-rubber all square.

In what was the the tightest of the nights matches Wallwork and Kellogg came out winners 21-12 17-21 21-12 after over an hour on court.

 

Denmark had earlier beaten Russian 3-0 in their semi-final.
