The victory parade will see Britain's top Olympic and Paralympic athletes from London 2012, such as Sir Chris Hoy and Jessica Ennis, travel through the capital on floats with millions of flag-waving supporters expected to line the streets to cheer them on.

The parade is being organised primarily by the British Olympic Association (BOA), the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and the Mayor's Office.

It has been confirmed that only the athletes will feature directly in the parade but the volunteers and military involved in the Games will be celebrated in some capacity.

"Team London Ambassadors, Games Makers and other volunteers will be represented at the celebrations on September 10th," said a spokesperson for the Mayor of London.

"The GLA (Greater London Authority), the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association, who are jointly organising the parade, are discussing and agreeing details with London 2012 and others responsible for all the Games volunteers and will make an announcement when plans are finalised."

London 2012 Games Makers were also celebrated during the Olympic Closing Ceremony

insidethegames understands that current plans could involve giving some of the Games volunteers priority seating at the parade although the exact plans are set to be outlined in further detail later this week.

All 900 Olympians and Paralympians competing at London 2012 will be invited to appear in the parade, which will start at 1:30pm GMT at Guildhall in the City of London before heading through Mansion House, St Paul's Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and down The Mall for a spectacular gathering at the Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace that is scheduled to conclude the event at 4pm.

The parade is set to be broadcast across a number of networks, including the BBC, which has been widely praised for its coverage of the London 2012 Olympics.

Channel 4, the host broadcaster of the London 2012 Paralympics, is also likely to show the parade.
