145647930July 3 - The Princess Royal will be a special guest at the Team GB preparation camp within Loughborough University tomorrow, where, as President of the British Olympic Association (BOA), she will be welcomed by five-time Olympic gold medallist and Team GB Ambassador Sir Steve Redgrave, Team GB Chef de Mission Andy Hunt and preparation camp director Mike Hay.

The Princess Royal (pictured above) - a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) who competed in the equestrian event for Britain at the Montreal 1976 Olympics and was a three-time medallist in the European Eventing Championships - will tour the Team GB Experience, which involves the "kitting out" process.

The Royal visitor - whose daughter Zara Phillips was named earlier this month in the five-strong British Eventing team for the London 2012 Olympics - will also meet Team GB athletes from rhythmic gymnastics and women's volleyball before visiting a training session for the men's basketball team - one of 13 sports using the Team GB preparation camp.

"Any time we have the opportunity to welcome to our prep camp an Olympian who competed for Team GB at a previous Games it is special, but to welcome an Olympian who is also our President makes it all the more special," Hunt said.

"Of course, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal also has the unique honour of being the parent of one of our Team GB athletes for London 2012, so her visit takes on even greater significance, and we will be delighted to welcome her to the Team GB Preparation Camp."
