The unanimous decision by the ISSF General Assembly during its meeting at the Grange Hotel followed an impressive presentation by Lee Eun Chul, South Korea's 1992 Olympic rifle champion.  

The new compound for the event will feature six shotgun layouts, one-hundred 50 metre targets and one-hundred 10m targets, 14 25m layouts as well as several running target layouts.

The ISSF World Championship in all events takes place every four years and is the ISSF's largest competition.

The last edition was held in Munich in 2010, turning out to be the first qualifying event for London 2012 among all the sports, with over 2,300 participants.

The next Championship are due to be held in Granada, Spain, in 2014.

Changwon will then follow in 2018 with more than 50 shooting events, including Olympic and non-Olympic competitions in the disciplines of shotgun, rifle, pistol and running target will be conducted there.

"We are committed to deliver an excellent competition," said Lee.

"Changwon is a sport-loving city with a long tradition in shooting events."

Changwon is located in the southeastern part of South Korea and is the country's eighth most populous city.

"We are very thankful to the ISSF," said Park Wan Sou, Changwon's Lord Mayor. 

"We have been working hard, and we will do our best to deliver a great competition."


The ISSF President, Olegario Vazquez Raña, was delighted with the choice of venue.

"It's a big surprise, and I think this is very good for the shooting sport," he said.

"Our sport is united: this is the best decision for our World Championship."

The ISSF General Assembly also voted for the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Championship, which will be held at the 12-layouts "Trap Conca Verde" Shooting Club in Lonato, Italy that won the votes of the delegates against Maribor and Belgrade bids.
