Canada came top of the medal table after picking up 138 points, ahead of Brazil and Argentina.

David Ford of Canada won their first gold medal in the men's K1, taking advantage of penalties to Brazilian duo Pedro Henrique Gonçalves and Ricardo Taques.

Benn Fraker took gold in the men's C1 with a time of 94.50, ahead of American compatriot Casey Eichfeld, with Cameron Smedley of Canada third.

Sátila, who is only 15, won the first of her two medals in the K1, going on to win the women's C1.

Haley Daniels took the C1 silver with Maria Sun Cassini claiming bronze, whilst in the K1 Jessica Groenveld and Thea Froehlich took second and third.

Brazil won team events in the women's C1 and men's K1, whilst Canada took the women's K1 title and America the men's C2.

"I'm glad to be in Brazil again where they always welcome us very well," said the President of the Confederation of the Pan American Canoe (COPAC), Cecilia Farias.

"Now we look towards April when the Pan American Canoe Sprint Championships take place in Rio de Janeiro, and that also promises to be a great championship."
