Innsbruck with_snowJanuary 13 - Doha is the latest city bidding for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics to send a high-level delegation to the first ever Winter Youth Olympics, where is due to start here later today.


The team is being led by Minister for Business and Trade Sheikh Jassim bin AbdulAziz bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, and also includes Doha 2020 vice-president Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the bid chief executive Noora Al Mannai, her deputy Fahad Juma, legal director Tariq Falamarzi and pubilc relations director Mohammad Al-Othman.

Doha, whose bid for the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics ended in controversy when they failed to make the shortlist, join teams from Istanbul and Rome while the other bidders - Baku, Madrid and Tokyo - are also expected to be represented. 

"The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games is an excellent opportunity for our team to experience an important new event in the Olympic calendar, meet members of the Olympic Family and to listen and learn," said Al Mannai.

"We are pleased and proud to be here in Innsbruck."

"We are close to finalising the content of our 2020 Applicant File and I'm sure we will see things here which will further enhance our thinking.

"There is a tremendous sports and events programme ahead and the whole delegation is excited about being part of this major new initiative for winter sports and young athletes."
