England v_Korea_Champions_Trophy_December_10_2011December 10 - Great Britain defeated South Korea 4-3 in Auckland in the Champions Trophy, to send them through a fifth place play-off with Germany tomorrow.

Having fallen to an unlucky defeat against the Germans in their last game, Britain once again felt hard done by after falling behind just before half time to a goal from You Hyo-Sik, despite having controlled much of the play.

Britain pressed in the second period to get back into the match, and had a succession of penalty corners which came to nothing, before the Koreans stunned them by doubling the advantage, as Seo Hong-Yo deflected the ball into the net.

Jason Lee's men refused to be panicked though, and kept their composure as James Tindall latched onto Barry Middleton's cross to finish.

They were soon back on level terms as Ashley Jackson netted inside the near post following yet another penalty corner, and with the momentum behind them they pressed for the goal which would put them ahead for the first time in the match.

The two goalscorers combined as Jackson found Tindall with just four minutes remaining to put Britain in front, but they were rocked within 60 seconds as Korea levelled from the penalty spot.

Cho Suk-Hoon was felled, Nam Hyun-Woo sent James Fair the wrong way to make it 3-3, but Britain were still in the driving seat, needing just the draw to progress to the fifth place play off.

With Korea pressing for a crucial winner, they were hit on the break as Mark Pearn found time and space to slot home the winning goal.

After the match Lee reiterated that Britain were not in the best of shape at this tournament as they plan ahead to the Olympic Games in London next summer.

"We haven't prepared to peak at this event," he said.

"I thought we did well to grind out the result after going behind.

"Physically we're not at our best at this tournament but I'm pleased we're still able to get these results."

If Britain can beat Germany tomorrow they will guarantee a place for England, the nominated home nation, at next year's Champions Trophy.

Spain defeated the Netherlands 3-1 to set up a final showdown with defending champions Australia, who downed hosts New Zealand 2-1.
