sophie cox_21-11-11November 21 - Sophie Cox, who took bronze at the Malaga European Cup last weekend on her comeback from shoulder and elbow injuries, maintained her momentum at the Amsterdam Grand Prix as she earned another bronze in the -52kg category – the first grand prix medal of her career.

Britain's 2011 European bronze medallist beat home favourite Miranda Wolfslag en route to a semi-final where she was narrowly beaten on a hold-down by Japan's Yuki Hashimoto, who went on to lose the final to Algeria's Soraya Haddad.

Britain's Karina Bryant also emerged from a world class field to earn bronze in the +78kg category.

Cox started her competition with an impressive victory over the number one seed and world number four Laura Gomez of Spain.

Then, against Maria Garcia from Dominican Republic, the Athens Olympian ground out a hard-fought win in the last 20 seconds.

Wolfslag was next up in the quarterfinal and was roared on by her compatriots at the densely populated venue.

Cox progressed again - but found her Japanese opponent too much to handle.

With no repechage in effect, however, a medal was hers.

Bryant (pictured right), who had taken gold at the Samoa World Cup the previous weekend, was again in fine form as she opened her account in Amsterdam with a win over Italy's Lucia Tangorre after a first round bye.

Bryant followed up with success against German world number 18 Franziska Konitz.

The semi-final saw the world-renowned judoka narrowly lose out to Chinese starlet Qian Qin who took silver at the World Championships in August.
