The competition in the capital city of Azerbaijan will take place from September 26 to October 6, with around 680 boxers coming from over 120 countries - a record number of participants will be at the event.

The Championships will also act as the main Olympic Qualifying Event for the London 2012 Olympics, with a total of 92 boxers in Baku set to qualify to compete in at the Games.

From the round of 16 and until the finals, boxing fans will be able to enjoy watch all matches live on www.AIBAboxingTV.com and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/aibaboxingtv.

The announcement means that AIBA has become one of the first International Olympic Sports Federation that has made one of their competitions available live on YouTube worldwide.

Ahead of the start of the World Championships, AIBA are set to hold an Extraordinary Congress on September 24.

All AIBA Member Federations who are up to date with the payment of their membership fee with effect from June 30, 2011 will be eligible to attend this Extraordinary Congress.

In a letter to all the AIBA Member Federations eligible to attend the Congress, the AIBA President C K Wu said: "This AIBA Extraordinary Congress will take place in the morning of September 24, 2011 in Baku, Azerbaijan, in conjunction with your National Federation's participation in the AIBA World Boxing Championships.

"The only purpose of calling this Extraordinary Congress is to get the Congress's approval on the following two points: amendment on the articles referring to the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] in the AIBA Statutes and a new article to adopt a new AIBA Competition Programme which will also affect other articles in the AIBA Statutes."

Further details on the implications of these points will not be known until they are fully explained to the AIBA Member Federations at the Extraordinary Congress itself.

The staging of the Congress and the World Championships in Baku will be hugely important as the Azerbaijani capital, who are bidding to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will want use the events to show the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that they can successfully host world class sporting competitions.
