brian_shimerJune 27 - Dave Farmer, Michael Nyitray, Grant Schaffner and Brian Shimer (pictured) have been confirmed as the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), coaches of the year for 2010 at an awards gala in Colorado Springs.


Shimer collected the national coach of the year award following his four man bobsled team's success at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where they took gold.

The team also took the 2010 World Cup title, taking 11 medals in all during the 2009-10 season.

Nyitray took the developmental coach of the year award for helping to coach high school bowlers in recent years.

One of his pupils, Andrew Koff, took two golds and a silver at the 2010 World Youth Championships in Finland, whilst another of his students, Nathan Ricks, has an average of 246.0, making him one of the top bowlers in the country.

Skeleton coach Schaffner received the Doc Counsilman Science Award, after contributing as the lead designer for the new skeleton sled at Vancouver 2010.

And Farmer was named volunteer coach of the year after helping guide the Aurora Saracens Rugby Club to a fourth successive year in the top four of the Colorado State High School Rugby Championships.
