Kathleen_SharkleyJune 4 - United States coach Lee Bodimeade has announced his squad for the 2011 women's national hockey team after considering the performances of his players during the National Championships in Washington.

The squad will compete for the US at the 2012 London Olympics and Pan-American Games in Guadalajara.

More than 100 players were in contention, 10 of whom competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The highly decorated and promising Kathleen Sharkley (pictured) is one of the team's great hopes, and Bodimeade paid particular tribute to her.

"Sharkey being the leading goal scorer at the tournament proves that she can play at the senior level," he said.

"Moving up to the national team will provide these players more playing opportunities to take the next step forward and play at this level."

Sharkey's team mate from Princeton University, Michelle Cesan, was also selected after having been a key part of the under-21 team.

Her performance in the National Championship clinched her a place in both the national team and champion challenge side, which will compete in Dublin later this month..

"The most significant selection of the tournament, was adding Michelle Cesan to the Champions Challenge travelling squad," said Bodimeade.

"Cesan has been on our radar for some time now and we were happy with her performance here and how her game has developed."
