The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, said that the appointment of Ahmad Sarji, the 73-year-old President of the Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF), was endorsed at their last meeting.

Ahmad Sarji earlier this month launched his 922-page memoirs "Given in Trust", which took him 12 years to write and describes how he rose to become one of the most prominent figures in Malaysian society.

His roles have included being the President of the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management, chairman of Malaysia's biggest fund management company PNB, the founding chairman of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia, and chairman of the Professional Golf of Malaysia.

Malaysia, who made their Olympic debut at Melbourne in 1956, are hoping to win their first gold medal at London next year.

They have so far won four medals, two silvers and two bronze, all in badminton.

Kok Chi said the meeting also appointed two Chef de Mission for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) in Jakarta and Palembang scheduled for November 11-25.

They are Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) Deputy President Datuk Naim Mohamed for Jakarta and Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) President Datuk Syed Mustaffa Syed Ali for Palembang.
