Jacobsson is one of Paralympic sport's most successful competitors, having won a remarkable 25 Paralympic medals, including 16 golds in a career that started at the 1980 Games in Arnhem.

He began his quest to compete at London 2012 by taking part in the regular ISSF World Cup Series at the start of the season in Sydney.

Jacobsson, 45, is focused on his goal and said: "I am looking for an Olympic quota place, nothing less.

"This is only my second competition within the frame of the ISSF World Cup Series, and I made it to the final round, so I am quite confident for future events.

"I have been winning a lot at the Paralympics, and I was looking for a new challenge."

Jacobsson, who competes in a wheelchair, made it to the ISSF World Cup final round in Chagwon and just missed out on a quota place by 0.2 points.

After the event Jacobsson admitted: "I did not shoot at my best, it has nothing do to with the pressure of the match.

"I will keep on chasing after a pass for London 2012."

ISSF vice-president Gary Anderson added: "We are happy to see Jonas in a final.

"We have been discussing it with the International Paralympic Committee, and we agreed that Mr Jacobsson complies with our 50m Rifle Prone regulations and can therefore participate in ISSF competitions, and that he's eligible to win an Olympic Quota Place.

"We are looking forward to see him competing again in our Wold Cup Series."

Still determined to win a place at the London Olympics, Jacobsson has confirmed that he will be attending the next two World Cup Stages in the United States and Germany for another shot at a quota place.
