Reigning champions Serbia and France both moved into the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 World Cup semi-finals to keep their title defences alive.

A brilliant team performance pushed the Serbs towards a 21-18 victory against host nation Austria at Vienna's Rathausplatz.

Points were shared relatively evenly among the Serbian quartet, but it was Strahinja Stojacic who stood out with seven points, four rebounds and a leading player value of 9.2.

Filip Krämer was sensational on the opposite side with 10 points and three rebounds but it was still not enough for the win.

Serbia are set to meet Olympic champions Latvia in the semi-finals as they seek a sixth World Cup title.

Brazil and the United States are due to meet on the other side of the bracket after defeating Poland and France, respectively, by 12-11 and 21-19 scorelines.

In the women's event, France narrowly overcame Canada 14-13 as they close in on back-to-back world titles.

Katherine Plouffe was player of the match but a late equaliser from Laetitia Guapo before Marie-Eve Paget's winning basket prevented her side from pulling off the upset.

Australia await the French in the next round after annihilating Spain 21-10, thanks in part to a Marena Whittle masterclass in which she racked up nine points, six rebounds, and three highlights.

The United States and China are set to contest the other semi-final.

Host nation Austria's women suffered in a similar fashion to the men as they were eliminated 21-17 by the Americans.

China then advanced after beating Germany 17-14.

Competition is set to conclude tomorrow in both tournaments with the semi-finals, third-place games, and gold medal matches all scheduled.
