Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann has not been included in Switzerland’s five-strong ski jumping team for this year’s European Games in Kraków-Małopolska.

Swiss Olympic has announced its team of ski jumpers for the Games but Ammann, a gold medallist in individual normal hill and large hill at Salt Lake City 2002 and Vancouver 2010, is a notable omission.

Gregor Deschwanden and Dominik Peter, the country’s top two athletes in the World Cup standings, headline the squad that also features Killian Peier, Sina Arnet and Emely Torazza.

Deschwanden, Peter and Peier have all represented Switzerland at the Winter Olympics, while Arnet has claimed three medals at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

A deadline of June 2 has been set for countries to announce their ski jumping teams for the European Games.

Polish fans will be hoping that Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła and Dawid Kubacki will be among those to represent the host nation in the event.

Although no official decision has been made yet, Polish Ski Association President Adam Malysz underlined the importance of the Games in an interview with Polish television channel TVP Sport last month.

Kraków-Małopolska 2023 President Marcin Nowak is also optimistic of a strong field for summer ski jumping’s European Games debut.

"We have assurances from the respective federations that they will come to us with their strongest line-ups," said Nowak.

"This is confirmed by the choices of the Swiss, who have decided to send a really strong team to Zakopane."

Zakopane - a regular stop on the Ski Jumping World Cup circuit - is due to play host to the men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions during the European Games.

The Średnia Krokiew hill is due to be used for women's, men's and mixed doubles competition from June 27 to 29, and Wielka Krokiew for women's and men's events on June 30 and July 1.
