More than 130 athletes are set to feature across five disciplines at the Pan Am Individual Badminton Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

Competition is due to take place in men’s and women’s singles, plus men’s, women’s and mixed doubles at the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport.

In the men’s singles, the top seed is Canadian Brian Yang, a 2019 Pan American Games silver medallist.

Yang starts his campaign with a match against Enrico Asuncion of the United States, with both players receiving a bye through to round two.

The second seed in the draw is Kevin Cordon of Guatemala, who begins his campaign against Frank Barrios of Venezuela.

In the women’s singles, the top seed is Michelle Li of Canada, gold medallist in the Birmingham 2014 Commonwealth Games, and a four-time Pan American Games champion.

Li begins her campaign against Peru’s Fernanda Saponara Rivva.

The second seed is Beiwen Zhang of the United States, who starts her campaign against Damaris Mercedes Ortiz Parada of Venezuela.

The top seeds in all three doubles categories are Canadian pairings - in the men’s Dong Adam and Nyl Yakura open their campaign against Brazilian duo Fabricio and Francielton Farias.

In the women’s Catherine Choi and Josephine Wu open against Peru pairing Ines Lucia Castillo Salazar and Paula La Torre Regal, while in the mixed Alexander Lindeman and Wu begin against Trinidad and Tobago team Nicholas Bonkowsky and Chequeda De Boulet.

The continental individual championships are due to begin tomorrow and run until Saturday (April 29).
