Ukraine have made up for yesterday's woes by claiming two of a possible five gold medals on day five of the European Wrestling Championships in the Arena Zagreb where women's wrestling bouts were contested.

The country lost all three gold-medal matches they were represented in yesterday but had a 100 per cent win ratio in today's finals in the Croatian capital.

World bronze medallist Alina Hrushyna Akobiia triumphed first for Ukraine with under-57-kilograms glory over Azerbaijan's Zhala Aliyeva to defend her continental title.

Germany's Elena Heike Brugger and Evelina Nikolova of Bulgaria joined her on the podium as they secured the bronze medals.

Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Iryna Koliadenko also recorded her second European gold like compatriot Akobiia.

The 24-year-old defeated Norway's Grace Bullen by way of pinfall to clinch the under-62kg crown.

She was named top performer of the day after winning each of her bouts 10-0 before the decider.

Bulgarian Bilyana Zhivkova scraped past Turk Selvi Ilyasoglu for bronze while Germany's Luisa Niemesch comfortably defeated Sweden's Johanna Lindborg to share the third step.

The 21-year-old Swedish phenom Emma Malmgren became a back-to-back European champion after claiming a 9-3 victory in the under-53kg division.

The pair were joined in the medal positions by joint third-placed finishers Maria Prevolaraki of Greece and Turk Zeynep Yetgil.

Bulgaria's Mimi Hristova was victorious in a tense battle against Moldovan Irina Ringaci as she prevailed 6-4 in the under-65kg class.

Another medal went to Ukraine as Tetiana Sova Rizhko crushed Frenchwoman Kendra Dacher 10-2.

Romanian Kriszta Incze then rounded out the podium with a huge 9-0 win against Turkey's Busra Efe.

Efe's compatriot Buse Cavusoglu Tosun also tasted defeat, this time in the under-72kg gold-medal match.

Italy's Dalma Caneva and Pauline Lecarpentier of France secured the bronze medals with respective wins against Israeli Ilana Kratysh and Liudmyla Pavlovets Tychyna of Ukraine.
