Switzerland sealed the top seed at the World Men's Curling Championship following a 8-5 victory over defending champions Sweden in the final day of the round robin stage in Ottawa.

The Swiss side finished with 11 wins and a loss as they are due to face the winner of Sweden and Canada in the semi-final at TD Place.

Sweden finished the round robin stage on a rough stretch after starting off with seven straight wins.

They have had two wins and three losses ever since and also lost to Canada 8-5 on the final day to fall to the fifth seed.

Canada secured the fourth seed with the win over Sweden, as they also beat Turkey 9-5 earlier in the day.

Canada were the runners-up last year in Las Vegas, as they look to get revenge on the defending champions by knocking them out early.

Scotland managed to claim the second seed with wins over the Czech Republic by 9-3 and New Zealand 10-4 and join Switzerland as the only teams to get an automatic spot in the semi-finals.

They are set to meet the winner of Norway and Italy, who will square off in a qualification game.

Norway took the third seed, beating the Czech Republic 8-6, while also defeating Turkey 6-4 as they finished with a 10-2 record.

That was same as Scotland, who edged them in the head-to-head.

Italy took the final qualification spot at six, beating Japan 12-5, sealing their place in the playoffs as the Asian side were right behind them in the standings.

A win for Japan would have place them in the top six, but they were not able to earn their spot and finished with a record of 5-7 after an 8-5 defeat to Germany.

Italy also beat South Korea later in the day, winning 9-2.

The Championship is scheduled to continue tomorrow with the qualification games and the semi-finals taking place, with the medal medals due to conclude the event on Sunday (April 10).
