France’s Alexandre Bardenet took the men’s individual title at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Épée World Cup in Buenos Aires.

Bardenet, a double team World Championship gold medallist, enjoyed individual success in Argentina after overcoming Minghao Lan of China 15-13 in the final.

Bardenet had earlier beaten compatriot Romain Cannone 15-12 in the semi-finals.

Cannone and fellow beaten semi-finalist Stephen Ewart of the United States both took bronze medals.

In the last four Lan was a comfortable 15-7 victor over Ewart.

A team competition concluded the World Cup event, with the gold medal going to Hungary after they overcame Venezuela 32-26.

The bronze medal went to the Czech Republic, who ran out 45-33 winners against Kazakhstan.

Earlier in the semi-finals Hungary defeated Czech Republic 35-28, while Venezuela overcame Kazakhstan 45-37.
