Austria has never failed to the top a women's podium in a World Cup season but had not won any of the 29 races held before today.

With only nine races left this season there were fears about an unwanted piece of history, but Hütter put things right with victory by just one-hundredth of a second.

Hütter, who won World Championships bronze in the super-G last month, clocked 1min 26.83 to just edge out Elena Curtoni of Italy.

Olympic super-G champion Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland ended third in 1:26.95.

American great Mikaela Shiffrin, who needs one more victory to match Ingemar Stenmark's 86 career World Cup wins, had to settle for fourth in 1:26.99.

"It was an amazing day," said Hütter, who now boasts three super-G World Cup wins.

"I was really feeling comfortable and nice because of the quiet and everything, no hurry. 

"I like it here.

"The first part you have to put everything into position to make everything dynamic and let the skis go down and have a direct line. 

"You have to have feeling and also a lot of pressure because the left foot is always going ahead. 

"You have to push and try to turn very hard.

"I think the last part was pretty faultless for me."

Katharina Liensberger was the last Austrian to win a women's World Cup race, on March 12 last year.

With two super-G races left this season, Curtoni sits on top of the discipline standings but she has a lead of just eight points over Gut-Behrami, with 100 available for a victory.

Shiffrin enjoys a huge 761-point lead over Gut-Behrami in the overall table as she closes in on a fifth overall title.

She will have another chance to match Stenmark's record tomorrow when a downhill is planned for Kvitfjell.
