The Saudi team of Abdulrahman Alrajhi, Khaled Almobty, Ramzy Al Duhami and Abdullah Alsharbatly topped the scoring in the qualifier held at the Al Shaqab equestrian centre.

They notched a time of 235.31sec in the first round with nine penalties, and followed it with 237.81 and six penalties in the second round.

Abdullah Mohd Al Marri, Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi, Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi and Mohammed Ghanem Al Hajri of the UAE led at the halfway stage with 241.07 and eight penalties, and 236.38 and 17 penalties in the second round secured their passage.

This marks the first time the UAE has secured equestrian qualification at the Olympic Games.

"It was our mission to make history for our country, we never qualified for the Olympics as a team before," Al Marri said.

"It’s been a long road, nearly seven or eight years planning and we failed the first time in Morocco so we were really desperate to qualify today."

Saudi Arabia won the Olympic bronze medal in team jumping at London 2012.

Egypt and Morocco had qualified for the last Olympic Games through this group, but finished third and fourth respectively, followed by hosts Qatar in fifth.

Defending champions Sweden, The Netherlands, Britain, Ireland and Germany secured their Paris 2024 places at last year's International Equestrian Federation World Championships, and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists progressed through the Jumping Nations Cup Final.

France qualify automatically as hosts.

A further 12 qualification places for team jumping at Paris 2024 are available.

Equestrian competition at Paris 2024 is due to be held at the Château de Versailles.
