A film documenting Austrian judoka Sabrina Filzmoser's journey to the top of the Mount Everest has been released.

Last May, Filzmoser, who is a two-time world bronze medallist, climbed to the summit of Everest before installing an International Judo Federation (IJF) flag and her first judo black belt there.

"By taking on this incredible challenge, Sabrina faced all possible difficulties and put her own life at risk to achieve her goals," a statement from IJF read.

"Yet beyond the performance and the feat, she had other messages to give.

"First of all there was a message of peace, as many parts of the world continued to burn.

"There was a message of preservation of the environment as well as a message for the youth of the whole world so that they may understand that everything is possible, provided that they give themselves the means."

During her descent, the two-time European champion was joined by Nicolas Messner, media and Judo for Peace director; Jo Crowley, coach and IJF publishing editor and filmmaker Robin Willingham.

The film is titled "Forever Everest: A story of courage and passion. The story of Sabrina Filzmoser."

Her adventure also saw the Everest Judo Club at the Sir Edmund Hillary School being inaugurated.

Filzmoser has competed at four Olympic Games and retired after Tokyo 2020.

She started her journey on March 4 last year in India, before a hike through Nepal and taking on Mount Everest's ascent.
