EA Sports has signed a partnership with back-to-back Formula One world champion Max Verstappen of The Netherlands.

Over the season-long deal, the video game company is set to collaborate with the Red Bull driver "to create content across the EA Sports portfolio."

It will also involve the publisher's logo being placed on the chin of the two-time reigning champion's helmet throughout the season.

The logo will appear on Verstappen's helmet at the 2023 season curtain-raiser which is due to begin in Bahrain on March 3.

"Max is a tenacious competitor and true champion who shares a deep love of games and play," said Andrea Hopelain, senior vice-president of brand for EA Sports and racing.

"As he races into Formula One history, we are excited to collaborate with him as one of the best athletes in the world to bring more fans together through our EA Sports experiences."

EA Sports currently owns the rights for the Championship's official game and are set to release F1 23 after the 2021 and 2022 editions.

Verstappen is known to be a gamer himself and has taken part in multiple virtual endurance events.

He also races for and sponsors esports outfit Team Redline.

"Whether it's playing games with my friends or staying competitive when away from the track, EA Sports has always been a big part of my life," said Verstappen.

"EA Sports is an icon for so many millions of fans, and I'm proud to represent them for the 2023 season."

Verstappen has been nominated for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award, which he won last year.

He is up against tough competition including Argentine FIFA World Cup winning footballer Lionel Messi and 22-time Grand Slam tennis champion Rafael Nadal of Spain.
