Her third win of the season kept the battle for the Crystal Globe alive going into next weekend's event in Winterberg in Germany, but Julia Taubitz remains on course to make it back-to-back overall season triumphs after finishing second in the Swiss resort.

Eitberger was fifth after the first run with a time of 54.161sec, but a 54.235 on the second gave her a winning time of 1:48.396 on the St Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bobrun.

She edged out World Championships silver medallist and defending Luge World Cup overall winner Taubitz, who was just 0.010 off the pace after runs of 54.124 and 54.282.

Olympic silver medallist Anna Berreiter completed the German podium sweep in 1:48.467 with runs of 54.097 and 54.370.

Kendija Aparjode of Latvia led at the halfway stage after a track record 54.091 first run, but a mistake on the second meant she slumped to seventh, finishing 0.255 behind Eitberger.

Taubitz continues to lead on 892 points, with Eitberger trailing by 80 points and Berreiter third on 819.

There was also success for Germany in the team relay event through Eitberger, and yesterday's men's singles winner Max Langenhan and men's doubles victors Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt.

They finished the relay in 2:51.301, beating the US team of Emily Sweeney, Tucker West and men's doubles pair Zachary Di Gregorio and Sean Hollander by 0.254.

Austria's Madeleine Egle, Nico Gleirscher and men's doubles pair Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller were third in 2:51.716.

Germany took an outright lead at the top of the team relay World Cup standings, moving onto 455.

Latvia are second on 415 after a fourth-place finish in St Moritz.

The Luge World Cup season finale next weekend in Winterberg is set to feature a team relay.
