India rested world champion and double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu which gave Aakarshi Kashyap the chance to take the spotlight in the women's singles.

She defeated Madhumitha Sundarapandian 21-6, 21-7.

In the men’s doubles Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila also won in straight games and in the women’s doubles Ashwini Bhat K. and Shikha Gautam came off court with a victory in only 22 minutes dropping only 11 points the process.

Mixed doubles pairing Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto needed only four minutes more to record a 21-13, 21-8 victory over Bharath Latheesh and Nayonika Rajesh.

It guarantees the Indians a spot in the quarter-finals but they will have to beat defending champions Malaysia if they are to finish top of the group and therefore avoid China in the knockout stages.

Malaysia also opened with two perfect performances, with no match in their tie against Kazakhstan lasting longer than half an hour.

Wong Ling Ching, playing in her first Championships, set the tone in the women’s singles with a 21-6, 21-13 victory in only 19 minutes over Aisha Zhumabek.

Leong Jung Hao, who won gold in this competition a year ago has also started confidently.

He beat Dmitry Panarin 21-12, 21-16 and the victory only took 29 minutes.

Go Pei Kee and Teo Mei Zhing won their women’s doubles encounter with Nargiza Rakmetullayeva and Kamila Smaguleva 21-7, 21-7 in only 19 minutes.  

Further victories in the men’s and mixed doubles made sure of a perfect start.

Malaysia face India tomorrow in the last round of group matches.

Japan beat Hong Kong 4-1 to lead Group D with maximum points.

Hong Kong could still make it through to the knockout stages if they can beat Pakistan who have lost both their matches so far.
