The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) has hailed the success of its recent youth athlete development workshops.

From January 21 to 28, the PNGOC conducted workshops in the four main regional centres of the country.

According to PNGOC, the workshops align with Team PNG Performance Strategy 2021-2024, which focuses on talent identification and development.

The initiative is aimed at helping National Federations and affiliate members develop talents and build a pathway for progression into the elite teams for major events.

"Part of the sustained success of Team PNG for future generations involves planning for the future with close collaboration from key stakeholders being the PNG Sports Foundation sports through High Performance Sports PNG and the National Sports Institute and members and affiliates of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee," PNGOC said.

The workshops were supported by the Olympic Solidarity programme.

Kumul Consolidated Holdings PNG, a major sponsor of the team's Performance Strategy 2021-2024, also helped fund  the workshops.

The workshops were held at the capital city of Port Moresby, the second largest city of Lae, Goroka, and Kokopo.
