Organisers have promoted this year's Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago in New York City's Times Square.

This is the second consecutive year billboards showcasing the multi-sport event have been displayed at the tourist hotspot, with banners due to be shown until Thursday (February 16).

Santiago 2023 partnered with Chile's National Tourism Service to secure the advertising space for the Games.

The Organising Committee's director of commercial, marketing and communications Juan Carlos Chamy revealed that this formed part of the plans to make a final push to promote the event.

"With a short time left before the competition begins, we are proud to have once again reached such an important place in the world like Times Square," Chamy said.

"For the coming months, our goal is to be in as many spaces and ensure that every corner of the continent knows that the Games are yet to come."

The 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled for October 20 to November 5, followed by the Parapan American Games from November 17 to 26.

Chile has never previously staged either multi-sport event.

Approximately 7,000 athletes from 41 nations are expected to compete at the Pan American Games, followed by 2,000 from 33 countries at the Parapan American Games.

The Pan American Games are set to serve as a Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying opportunity in 33 disciplines.
