The United States' Jagger Eaton comfortably topped the standings in the men's open qualifiers at the World Park Skateboarding Championships in Sharjah.

The 21-year-old posted a score of 78.00 in his opening run to take first place in front of reigning Japanese park champion Nagahara Yuro in second with 75.33 points.

Brazilian Augusto Akio made up the top three with a total of 74.00.

Olympic bronze medallist Eaton also took part in the street competition last week where he came sixth overall.

A total of 121 park skaters braved the Aljada Skatepark bowl in the Emirati city to try and secure a place in the next round but only 28 were able to advance.

Among those that did not make it through was Beijing 2022 snowboard halfpipe champion Ayumu Hirano of Japan.

Hirano also competed in the Tokyo 2020 park skateboarding competition but could only muster up a 14th-place finish.

The United States saw seven of its skaters progress through to the quarter-finals with five occupying places in the top 10 as Tate Crew, Tom Schaar, Liam Pace, and Gavin Bottger occupied fourth to seventh.

Meanwhile, four Brazilians including Tokyo 2020 Olympian Pedro Quintas, also advanced.

Still yet to enter the competition are the skateboarders that were pre-seeded based on their Olympic World Skate Ranking.

The group, made up of the US' Heimana Reynolds, Cory Juneau, Brazil's Pedro Barros and Keegan Palmer of Australia will join the action for the quarter-finals tomorrow.

In addition to the world title, ranking points for Paris 2024 Olympic qualification are available for skateboarders competing in Sharjah.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with both the men's and women's park quarter-finals.
